If you are looking for a way to access information quickly with your mobile phone, here is an alternative to using your mobile phone's web browser.  It's quick and you don't have to use your phone's mobile browser.  This is great if there is an emergency and you don't have time to wait for your mobile phone's web browser to load or if you simply want to use an alternative, quick way to access information.  Two ways that you can get information quickly from the web is using Twitter SMS and Google SMS.  In this article, you will learn how to use SMS with two very popular web applications, Twitter and Google.

Twitter SMS

Before you get started with using Twitter and SMS on your mobile phone, you need to set up your mobile phone with Twitter.  Here are the instructions for doing this:

1. Log in to Twitter with your using name and password.  If you need to set up a Twitter account, visit Twitter.com and create new account.

2.  After you log in, click on Settings.  Click on the link labeled, 'mobile'

3.  Complete the instructions for setting up your mobile phone.  Don't worry, they are very simple.  :-)

Here are some Twitter SMS codes that you can use to access information and post your tweets to Twitter using SMS and your mobile phone.

To send a tweet to Twitter using your mobile phone, send an SMS to 40404.  For example, if you want to send a message telling everyone that you can accept tweets with your mobile phone, you would do the following with your SMS applcation on your phone:  Type 40404 as the phone number that you are sending the text to, then enter the following text in the message, "I can send and receive tweets with my mobile phone" of course without the quotes.

Remember to send the message to Twitter at 40404 (These tweets will show up on your Twitter page)

UNFOLLOW username

Stop following a user

ON/OFF

Turn all Tweet notifications on or off

Set Tweet notifications for a user on or off (you'll still be following them even if you set it to off)

Shows you the latest tweet from any user

RT mslinkexchange

Retweet a user's latest tweet

FAV mslinkexchange

Favorite a user's latest tweet

D username your-message

Send a direct message to a user

Remember to change the username to the name that you want to send the message to in Twitter!

Using SMS and Short Codes with Twitter and Google is Easy

The coolest thing about this is that it works on any phone that supports SMS text messaging!  This includes Droid, Droid Eris, BlackBerry, iPhone, Nexus One, and other mobile phones, not just smart phones.  Something that I found very helpful is to add Google and Twitter to my Droid Eris Phonebook.  You can do this with any mobile phone contact manager.  Just addGoogle with the phone number, 466453 and Twitter with the phone number, 40404.  This way you can easily send the SMS and receive information instantly!
